In The Earth
Director: Ben Wheatley
You can almost hear Wheatley cackling with glee at some of the movie’s most outlandish sequences, with Clint Mansell’s gorgeous, giallo-tinged score intertwining with Martin Pavey’s throbbing sound designs, like some vast sonic mycorrhiza. The result absolutely demands to be experienced on the biggest screen possible in a darkened auditorium with the sound turned up to 11, engulfing the viewer in its deliciously dark spell.

Every rustle of fabric is heightened; every frill and soap bubble captured in a plane of focus so shallow you daren't breathe in case you disturb it.

A Field In England
Director: Ben Wheatley
One of the films most striking qualities is its address to our ears. In Martin Paveys sound design, everything floats unmoored, dialogue has the same sonic status as the wind or the eerie music.

The impressive sound design by Martin Pavey gives everything a brilliantly tense quality, and the smart jump cuts keep even these seemingly simple domestic dramas edgy.
